Following the successful launch of ScienceDirect ArticleChoice to the corporate market in 2005 and government market in August 2006, Elsevier, a leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical (STM) information, is now offering the same flexible access option to academic customers.

ScienceDirect ArticleChoice allows a customer to access journal, handbook and book series articles that are outside their current portfolio. Articles can be purchased in bundles (100, 200, and 500), and are available as required. IP access ensures that articles can be downloaded multiple times within 24 hours at no additional cost.

As Marten Stavenga, Global Business Development Manager explains: "Many small university and college libraries cover multiple subject areas and have difficulty acquiring all the information they need at a price they can afford. We feel that ScienceDirect ArticleChoice will offer them the flexible access and pricing options that they need."

The unique flexibility of the product is echoed by Andrea Schweikert, Global Accounts Director Elsevier: "Librarians will have more control over their budgets. They pay upfront for a bundle of full-text articles at a discounted price.
