More than 4,000 physicians have enrolled in the Illinois Health Connect program, Gov. Rod Blagojevich (D) announced on Sunday, the Chicago Tribune reports. The Health Connect program aims to pair beneficiaries of All Kids, Illinois' version of SCHIP, with primary care physicians to reduce unnecessary trips to the emergency department. The original goal of the recruiting effort that began in March was 3,000 physicians, according to a statement from Blagojevich's office. Most doctors are in the Chicago area, but additional physicians will be recruited in central and southern Illinois this summer (Chicago Tribune, 5/7).
