This descriptive study demonstrated that the reusable, commercially-available surgivac pump is a safe and economic alternative to the originally designed vacuum containers for draining chronic malignant effusions.
The pump was successful in draining pleural fluid from all the patients and had no complications relating to the device.
Results prove that the pump is a safe and cheap alternative, making it especially suitable for developing countries and countries with limited health insurance.
